Start with a goal you can work towards.
Write down what you are saving for, its cost and your target date. Choose an amount you can set aside each month while covering essential household needs.
If your income changes, adjust the plan. Setting money aside regularly, even in small amounts, helps you track progress.
Understand what comes in and goes out.
- List actual income, rather than relying only on expected payments.
- Start with food, housing, school costs and other essentials.
- Include existing debt and other recurring commitments.
- Review the balance and plan savings and other spending.
Ask before you sign.
Understand interest, additional charges, repayment periods, security and what happens if payments are late. Ask for a copy of the terms and repayment schedule.
