Start with the full list

Ask the school for its current list and due dates. Separate costs needed before term from weekly or monthly expenses. Figures here are examples, not school prices or SACCO terms.

  • List required fees, supplies, transport and meals.
  • Check which existing supplies are still usable.
  • Record the source and date of each estimate.

Put dates beside the amounts

For each item, record the deadline, amount and money already set aside. Keep funds you hold separate from income that has not arrived.

WORKED EXAMPLE

150,000 − 30,000 = 120,000 RWF

Example: costs total 150,000 RWF and 30,000 RWF is saved. Four contributions of 30,000 RWF would fill the 120,000 RWF gap, provided they all arrive before the payment date.

If the plan does not fit

  • Review estimates and avoid counting a cost twice.
  • Ask the school early about available payment arrangements and obtain confirmation.
  • If considering borrowing, first review the full cost and repayment schedule.
  • Do not rely on unconfirmed assistance or credit.
